“GREAT IS OUR GOD!”

2Chronicles 2:5-6  And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.

But who is able to build him an house, seeing the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him an house, save only to burn sacrifice before him?

The greatness of our God, the one true and living God is infinitely above all that the most intelligent of minds could ever conceive. His greatness was beyond even the comprehension of the wisest of all earthly kings, King Solomon.

Romans 11:33-36  O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?

Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?

For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

Does this mean that God’s people should simply accept this fact of the magnitude of our God and thus conclude that there is no need to make any concerted effort to better understand Him? No, not at all. God created all that He created, and has done all that He has done, in such a as to show, and perpetually remind all His creation of the greatness of the glory of their Creator.

Isaiah 45:18  For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

Psalms 46:10  Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

The unbelievers of this world have chosen one of two courses to follow. They have either become “fools,” by denying the existence of the very God who created them, or they have become pagan idolaters because they have fashioned and followed their own self-made “gods.”

(Psalms 14:1)  The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Psalms 96:4-6  For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods.

For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.

Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

Knowing and seeking after our GREAT GOD, the God of the Holy scriptures is something that the blinded minds of fallen man has whole-heartedly rejected throughout the ages.

Ephesians 4:17-19  This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

Through the miraculous grace of the “new birth” God began to reveal the greatness of who He truly is and what He has done. Once having been made a new creation in Christ Jesus, it then becomes the continual desire of our changed hearts to seek and to know this great God of our salvation.

Psalms 79:9  Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name’s sake.

This was the very reason God preserved His precious Word. He loved us too much to leave His beloved children without a way to better know and understand His infinite and manifold greatness for our good and His glory.

Ephesians 1:17-19  That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

Father, help us to learn of You, that we may better honor and glorify You with our everyday lives.
